Radhika Shah, the founder of RAD was chosen by Loreal Paris to be a Women of Worth Honore for 2022. This selection is awarded to women who uplift the communities they live in through service. This selection was a massive stepping stone for RAD as it gave our organization a space on a national platform to spread awareness of autism. Through this opportunity, RAD got the chance to partner up with HBO Max to make a documentary explaining Radhika’s story and inspiration to start this organization. Through all of this, Loreal Paris generously donated $20,000 to support the organization.
It is estimated that as many as 8,500 school age children in Nevada have been diagnosed with ASD, most living right here in the Las Vegas valley area.
Education for parents, teachers and physicians is vitally important in recognizing and treating ASD.
Early diagnosis and treatment can drastically reduce autism symptoms. Most children are diagnosed around age 3, though it is possible to diagnose as early as 18 months.
It is estimated that a new autism diagnosis is given every 20 minutes in the U.S., making it the fastest growing developmental disability in our country.
Despite it’s growth, funding for autism research ranks the lowest behind cancer, diabetes and aids.
The cost is astronomical; on average a family spends $60,000 per year for treatment and care.
Typically, insurance covers only 30-40% of the cost of medical care for a child with ASD.
There is a great need to develop new, inclusive socialization and care programs.
Children with autism require costly specialized care, often one-on-one, by professionals trained in ABA therapies, medical care and special education practices.
